Connect a GoDaddy Domain to Squarespace Manually
Follow these steps when automatic nameserver connection fails and you need to manually configure DNS records.
Before Starting:
- Ensure GoDaddy's default nameservers are active
- Remove any DS records
- Delete any existing DNS templates
- Note: Domain names cannot include "squarespace" or "sqsp"
Step 1: Reconnect Your Domain
- Go to Domain Names panel
- Disconnect existing domain
- Click "I already have a domain"
- Enter your domain name
- Select "No, use DNS records"
- Choose "Other" from provider dropdown
- Click Connect domain
Step 2: Access GoDaddy Settings
- Log into GoDaddy domain portfolio
- Select your domain
- Click "Manage DNS" under Additional Settings
Step 3: Add First CNAME Record
- Type: CNAME
- Host: [Copy unique code from Squarespace]
- Data: verify.squarespace.com
- Keep default TTL
Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record
- Type: CNAME
- Host: www
- Data: ext-cust.squarespace.com
- Keep default TTL

Step 5: Add Four A Records Create records with these values:
- Host: @
- Type: A
- Data (create one for each):
- 198.185.159.144
- 198.185.159.145
- 198.49.23.144
- 198.49.23.145
At symbol for email
Important Record Notes:
- Delete @ records that don't match these specifications
- Remove empty name records
- Preserve Mail/Email records
Step 6: Wait for Connection
- Allow 24-72 hours for full propagation
- Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS settings
- Green labels indicate successful connections
If Issues Persist:
- Use DNS checker tool in Squarespace
- Reset GoDaddy nameservers:
- Access domain portfolio
- Click "Manage DNS"
- Select "Change" under Name Servers
- Choose "I will use GoDaddy name servers"
- Save changes
