Subscriber authentication helps protect your email campaigns from being marked as spam by using reCAPTCHA or confirmation emails. Here's what you need to know:

Authentication Options

When using Squarespace storage, you must enable at least one of these methods:

  • Google reCAPTCHA: An invisible security feature that blocks bot submissions
  • Confirmation Email: Requires subscribers to verify their email address

These options are not available for:

  • Checkout newsletter sign-ups
  • Manually added emails
  • Imported email addresses

Google reCAPTCHA

This invisible security check works automatically on:

  • Forms with required email fields
  • Newsletter blocks using Squarespace storage
  • Promotional pop-ups

reCAPTCHA is enabled by default for new forms and newsletter blocks.

Confirmation Emails

New subscribers receive a verification email before being added to your list. These are sent for:

  • Forms with required email fields
  • Newsletter blocks with confirmation enabled
  • Promotional pop-ups with confirmation enabled
  • Free Acuity Scheduling opt-ins
  • Free member site sign-ups
  • Cover page newsletters (v7.0)

Customizing Confirmation Emails:

  1. Go to Email Campaign Settings > Authentication Options
  2. Click Customize Email
  3. Edit text, style, and layout
  4. Modify subject line and preview text
  5. Test the email
  6. Save changes

Troubleshooting Tips:

If subscribers aren't receiving confirmation emails:

  1. Check spam folders
  2. Add [email protected] to contacts
  3. Review email client restrictions
  4. Verify correct email address
  5. Try an alternate email address

For 404 errors when confirming:

  1. Reset form storage connection
  2. Reconnect to mailing list
  3. Ensure domain points to Squarespace

Note: EU residents should ensure authentication settings comply with local regulations.
