Expanding your business through Facebook and Instagram's shopping features can significantly boost your reach and sales. Here's how to effectively sell products on these platforms:

What You Need to Know

Meta's updated shop policies (as of April 24, 2024) require U.S. merchants to enable checkout on Facebook and Instagram platforms directly. The integration with Squarespace is one-way, meaning:

  • Product details sync from Squarespace to Meta
  • Sales on Meta platforms don't sync back to Squarespace
  • Orders, inventory, and analytics remain separate
  • Meta's E-Commerce Manager handles platform sales

Prerequisites for Setup

Ensure your Squarespace site has:

  • A shop with physical products only
  • Complete product listings (images 500px × 500px minimum)
  • Website title
  • No site-wide password protection
  • Compliance with Meta's e-commerce policies

Required Accounts:

  • Business Manager account
  • Facebook business page
  • Meta Pixel
  • Ad account
  • Instagram Business Account (if selling on Instagram)

Synchronization Process

  1. Access "Products on Facebook & Instagram"
  2. Click "Connect with Facebook"
  3. Choose desired features:
    • Facebook Ads
    • Facebook Shops
    • Instagram Shopping
  4. Follow Facebook's setup instructions

What Syncs Between Platforms:

  • Product ID
  • Title
  • Description
  • Main image
  • Lowest price
  • Availability status

Updates sync automatically every hour.

Managing Your Shop

After approval (24-48 hours):

  • Set payment method to checkout
  • Design your shop layout
  • Track performance through Meta Business Center
  • Create targeted ad campaigns
  • Tag products in Instagram posts and stories

Disconnecting Your Shop

Before disconnecting, note that:

  • Catalog products will be deleted
  • Tagged product links will stop working
  • Access Facebook/Instagram settings in Products & Services menu
  • Click Disconnect twice to confirm

For support issues:

  • Squarespace handles website-related concerns
  • Meta Business Help Center assists with platform-specific problems
  • Instagram Help Center provides Instagram-specific support

Remember to maintain separate inventory tracking for Meta platforms and your Squarespace store to ensure smooth operations across all sales channels.
