How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain

DNS records are digital rules that connect your domain to various internet services, enabling visitors to reach your website and email. They also help with security and domain ownership verification.

When to Update DNS Records:

  • Connecting third-party services
  • Redirecting domains
  • Setting up email services
  • Fixing domain connection issues

Requirements for DNS Management in Squarespace:

  • Domain must be managed by Squarespace
  • Third-party domains must use Nameserver Connect

Opening DNS Settings:

  1. Access Domains dashboard
  2. Select domain name
  3. Click DNS Settings

Available DNS Record Types:

  • A and AAAA (IPv4 and IPv6)
  • ALIAS and CNAME
  • DKIM and SPF
  • DMARC
  • MX
  • SRV
  • CAA
  • DS and DNSKEY
  • HTTPS
  • PTR
  • SSHFP
  • TLSA
  • NS Records
  • TXT Records

Customizing TTL (Time To Live):

  • Default: 4 hours
  • Can be customized in seconds
  • Maximum value: 2147483648 seconds

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Open Domains dashboard
  2. Select domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS Settings
  4. Find Custom Records
  5. Hover over record
  6. Click trash can icon
  7. Save changes

Important Notes:

  • DNS changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate
  • Manage multiple domains' DNS records separately
  • For third-party domains using DNS Connect, modify settings through your domain provider
  • Custom TTL values must be entered in seconds
