How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain

DNS records, also called resource records, contain essential information that connects users to your website or email address. They help enhance website security and authenticate domain ownership.

You can update DNS records in Squarespace if you:

  • Have a domain managed by Squarespace
  • Connected a third-party domain via Nameserver Connect

Note: For domains connected through DNS Connect, edit DNS settings through your external domain provider.

Common reasons to edit DNS records:

  • Redirecting your domain
  • Setting up third-party email
  • Fixing disconnected domains

How to Access DNS Settings:

  1. Open your domains panel
  2. Click the domain name
  3. Select DNS Settings

Available DNS Record Types:

  • A and AAAA Records
  • ALIAS Records
  • CNAME Records
  • DKIM and SPF Records
  • DMARC Records
  • MX Records
  • SRV Records
  • CAA Records
  • DS and DNSKEY Records
  • HTTPS Records
  • PPM Records
  • SSHFP Records
  • TLSA Records
  • NS Records
  • TXT Records

Customizing TTL (Time To Live)

  • Default TTL: 4 hours
  • Can be customized in seconds
  • Maximum value: 2147483648 seconds

How to Delete DNS Records:

  1. Open domains panel
  2. Click domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS Settings
  4. Scroll to Custom Records
  5. Hover over record and click trash can
  6. Click Save

Important: DNS changes may take 24-72 hours to update across the internet.
