All trial websites are initially private, visible only to owners and contributors. While trial sites won't appear in search engines, they can be accessed if you share a direct link or connect to a known third-party domain. You can enable password protection for selected visitors.

For paid websites, visibility settings vary based on when you created your trial. To check if your site is live:

  1. Open the main menu
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Click Website Availability
  4. Look for "Public" status

For online stores, a payment processor connection is required. Without it, customers will see "Checkout is closed" during checkout. Once connected, customers can complete purchases normally.

Website changes become visible after saving:

  • Layout page modifications
  • Blog posts, events, and product updates
  • Page descriptions and settings
  • Style and design changes
  • Content block sections
  • Footer edits

These updates appear instantly after page refresh:

  • Gallery section images
  • Gallery page media
  • Album page tracks
  • Navigation menu changes

To maintain privacy after upgrading:

  • Use website password protection
  • Keep settings private until ready to launch
  • Remove indexed content via Google Search Console if needed
  • Implement page-specific search engine restrictions

For stores already indexed by search engines, use Google Search Console to remove content. While Squarespace cannot assist with this process, Google provides detailed documentation for content removal.

Note: If your site hasn't been indexed yet, you can preemptively hide pages from search engines through your site settings.
