Upgrade Guide: How to Migrate from Squarespace 7.0 to 7.1
Before upgrading from Squarespace version 7.0 to 7.1, first prepare your site by:
- Checking template compatibility
- Ensure your template isn't deprecated
- Stay under 100 pages limit
- Disable developer mode
- Create a backup by duplicating your site
- Important Pre-Upgrade Steps:
- Save audio files from Album pages (not supported in 7.1)
- Change audio layout entry pages
- Move important subpages out of Index Pages
- Save any custom CSS
- Starting the Upgrade:
- Go to Home Menu > Site > Design > Upgrade to Version 7.1
- Click Start and review upgrade information
- Preview site in version 7.1
- Test and make design adjustments
- Click "Publish update" when ready (this cannot be undone)
Key Differences in 7.1:
- New page section-based layout system
- Intuitive Editor for content placement
- Automatic Layouts for content organization
- Site-wide animations
- Enhanced Commerce features (10,000 product limit, nested categories)
- Digital Products capability
- Multi-language support via Weglot
Notable Changes:
- Some 7.0 features won't transfer (Album pages, certain blocks)
- Header and navigation differences
- Mobile styling changes
- Commerce features updates
- Blog engagement feature changes
The upgrade is permanent and cannot be reversed. Take time to preview and test thoroughly before publishing. Your site's core data (SEO, orders, customers, domains) will remain intact during the upgrade.
Consider starting fresh with a new 7.1 site if you have minimal content or prefer manual migration. Contact Squarespace support for assistance with specific migration concerns.
