Understanding Search Keyword Analytics: A Guide to Traffic Analysis
Search keyword analysis helps identify terms that drive traffic to your site through search engines. This data reveals what users search for when finding your site, enabling content optimization.
To check search keywords in Squarespace Analytics:
- Open Analytics panel
- Click Traffic
- Select Search Keywords
- Choose Google or Other Search Engines
- Set date range (data available from January 2014)
Google Search Keywords
To access Google search data, verify your site with Google Search Console. Data appears 72 hours after verification, showing:
- Total Clicks: Number of clicks from specific keywords
- Total Impressions: Times your site appeared in search results
- Average Click-Through Rate: Percentage of impressions leading to clicks
- Average Position: Mean position in search results
The keyword trend graph displays performance over time, while the table shows data for up to 200 keywords, including:
- Search terms
- Clicks and click-through rates
- Impressions
- Average positions
Other Search Engines
The Other Search Engines tab shows traffic from platforms like Bing and DuckDuckGo, displaying:
- Search terms used
- Number of searches
- Multiple search engine associations
Note: "Not provided" indicates concealed search activity for security reasons. Searches over 80 characters aren't included.
Using Search Keyword Data
Optimize your content by:
- Identifying improvement areas where impressions are high but click-through rates are low
- Adding successful keywords to relevant content sections
- Aligning product descriptions with popular search terms
- Considering verification with additional search engines
For data accuracy:
- Compare with Google Search Console directly
- Allow 72 hours for data synchronization
- Contact support if discrepancies persist beyond 72 hours
