Third-party domain connections can fail for several reasons. Here's how to troubleshoot and fix common issues:

Wait for DNS Propagation

  • Allow 24-72 hours for new domain connections to work properly
  • DNS changes take time to propagate across global servers

Common Connection Issues

Domain Already Connected

  • Check your other Squarespace sites for existing connections
  • Disconnect the domain from the previous site
  • Contact support if you can't locate the connection

CNAME Record Issues Two required CNAME records:

  1. Points to verify.squarespace.com
  2. Points to ext-cust.squarespace.com

A Record Issues

  • Delete conflicting A records except for email-related ones
  • Maintain these settings:
    • Host: @
    • Points To: 198.185.159.144

Fixing "Record Not Found" Errors

  1. Open Domains panel
  2. Click problematic domain
  3. View DNS settings
  4. Check for red labels indicating connection issues
  5. Update incorrect records in your domain provider's account

Nameserver Issues For DNS Connect:

  • Don't modify nameservers
  • Keep provider's default settings
  • Changes will break site connection

For Nameserver Connect:

  • Reset to provider defaults if connection fails after 72 hours
  • Follow provider-specific instructions for GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Network Solutions

If problems persist:

  1. Verify settings with domain provider
  2. Wait full propagation period
  3. Contact domain provider support
  4. Consider manual domain connection

Remember to maintain proper SSL certificate settings and check for security warnings in your browser.
