SSL certificates protect your website's connection, ensuring visitor data remains secure. Here's how to fix common SSL certificate issues and security warnings.

Wait Time for New Domains

  • Allow up to 72 hours for new or recently connected domains
  • This waiting period is necessary for certificate generation and connection completion

Fixing "Connection Not Private" Warnings

  1. Initial Steps:
  • Wait 72 hours for new domains
  • Verify "Secure" setting in SSL panel
  • Check for mixed content on your site
  • Confirm proper domain connection
  1. Domain-Specific Checks:
  • Squarespace domains: Maintain default records
  • Third-party domains: Verify correct DNS records
  1. Certificate Verification:
  • Test domain in private browsing window
  • Allow up to 72 hours after making changes

Resolving "SSL Certificate Not Available" Error

For Squarespace Domains:

  • Verify default records remain unchanged
  • Wait 72 hours for processing

For Third-Party Domains:

  • Review Domain Mapping records
  • Check for CAA record restrictions
  • Consider transferring domain to Squarespace if issues persist

Browser Compatibility

  • Use browsers listed on Let's Encrypt's "Platforms that trust ISRG Root X1"
  • Unsupported browsers may continue showing security warnings

After Resolution:

  1. Submit site to Google Search Console for secure indexing
  2. Clear browser cache if warnings persist
  3. Test in private browsing window

Remember: DNSSEC is separate from SSL protection. While Squarespace domains include automatic DNSSEC protection, third-party DNSSEC may not be compatible with our SSL configuration.

Important Note: Only domains pointing to Squarespace sites receive our free SSL certificate. For domains pointing elsewhere, contact the respective website host for SSL support.
