Squarespace Domains: How to Redirect Your Domain to Another Site
A domain or subdomain can be redirected to a third-party site using Squarespace Domains' DNS settings. Here's how to set it up correctly:
Before Starting:
- Ensure your domain uses Squarespace nameservers
- Note the difference between marking and forwarding
- Have your target site's URL and IP address ready
Redirecting to a Non-Squarespace Site:
- Add a CNAME Record:
- Go to Domain Control Panel > DNS Settings
- Delete Squarespace Defaults
- Add Custom Record
- Select CNAME type
- Enter "www" in Host field
- Enter provider's URL in Data field
Floating search bar on the website
- Add an A Record:
- Stay in DNS Settings
- Add new Custom Record
- Select A type
- Enter "@" in Host field
- Enter provider's IP address in Data field

Special Cases:
For Big Cartel, ClickFunnels, SiteGround, SmugMug, Systeme.io, or Zoho:
- Add CNAME record with "www" host
- Create domain redirect rule:
- Set "@" as Redirect from
- Enter full URL as Redirect to
- Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
- Enable SSL
- Set path preferences
Troubleshooting:
- Wait 72 hours for changes to take effect
- Check for DNS conflicts
- Ensure DNSSEC settings are correct
- Verify character requirements in registration fields
Remember: You cannot redirect to specific pages using DNS settings alone. Use redirect presets for page-level redirects.
