With Squarespace, you can continue using your existing custom domain email address or switch to Google Workspace. Both options work with third-party domains and Squarespace domains.

Keep Your Current Email Provider

You can maintain your existing email service without affecting your website by:

  • Only modifying CNAME and A records when connecting domains
  • Keeping existing nameservers and MX records unchanged
  • Adding necessary DNS records for third-party email services (contact provider for specific records)

Switch to Google Workspace

Moving to Google Workspace allows you to:

  • Keep your existing email address
  • Manage billing through Squarespace
  • Access Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive
  • Use either third-party or Squarespace domains

Before Switching to Google Workspace:

  • Ensure your domain setup is complete
  • Don't cancel current email service yet
  • Maintain administrator access to both accounts
  • Complete domain transfers if applicable

Migration Process:

  1. Create Google Workspace Account
  • Use your existing custom domain
  • Set up email addresses for all users
  • Allow 1-72 hours for MX record changes to propagate
  1. Import Content
  • Export emails and contacts from current provider
  • Use Google's data migration service
  • Transfer complete email history
  1. Cancel Previous Service
  • Wait 72 hours minimum
  • Verify successful email delivery to Google Workspace
  • Save all necessary content
  • Keep domain-related MX records for Google Workspace
  • Only cancel email service portion

For Squarespace domains: Remove old provider's MX records For third-party domains: Keep domain active, only cancel email service

After cancellation, all new emails will automatically route to your Google Workspace account.
