
Report Site Password Protection Guide
Protect your website content with a general site password that visitors must enter to access any part of your site. This feature is ideal for sites under construction or when limiting access to specific individuals.
Key Points:
- All visitors use the same password
- Password sessions last 4 hours
- Passwords are case-sensitive
- Never use your Squarespace account password
- Not compatible with e-commerce checkout
- Password protection prevents search engine indexing
Setting a Password (Computer):
- Open site's availability panel
- Select "Password protected"
- Enter desired password
- Click Save

Setting a Password (Mobile App):
- Tap More > Settings
- Tap Site Availability
- Select Password protected
- Enter password
- Tap Save
Testing Your Password:
- Open site in private browser
- Enter password at screen lock
- Press Enter or click arrow to access

Changing/Removing Password:
- To change: Enter new password in availability panel
- To remove: Select Public or Private mode
Important Notes:
- Traffic analytics only count after password entry
- Password sessions can't be manually ended
- Password protection removes site from search results
- Private sites are only accessible to owners and collaborators
- Public sites require a paid plan
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Disable password managers before editing settings
- Enter passwords manually instead of copying/pasting
- Check homepage-specific passwords if access issues persist
- Ensure proper password formatting
This feature supports site-wide protection, but you can also password-protect individual pages or implement SSO for Enterprise plans.
