Abandoned payment recovery helps recover lost sales by automatically sending reminder emails to customers who leave items in their cart without completing the purchase. Here's everything you need to know about implementing this feature effectively.
How It Works
- Automated email sent 24 hours after cart/payment abandonment
- Includes a "Complete Your Order" button linking to cart review
- Customers can unsubscribe from these notifications
- Not sent for subscription products
- Only sends if customer provided email address and had in-stock items
Eligibility Requirements
For logged-in customers:
- Must have at least one in-stock product in cart
For other customers:
- Must enter email address in payment field
- Must close payment page without completing purchase
- Cart must contain at least one in-stock item
- Must not return to complete purchase before email sends
Setting Up Recovery Emails
- Enable the feature:
- Open Payment panel
- Toggle on "Abandoned Payment Recovery"
- Customize email content:
- Modify subject line, message, header, and footer
- Set reply-to and sending email addresses
- Preview with test email
- Track performance:
- Monitor abandonment trends
- Measure email recovery success rates
- View customer journey funnel
Managing the Feature
To restore default settings:
- Scroll to bottom of panel
- Click "Restore Default Values" (irreversible)
To disable emails:
- Open Payment panel
- Toggle off "Abandoned Payment Recovery"
Note: System collects only email addresses - no additional personal information is stored. Customers must re-enter payment details when returning to complete purchase.
Research shows these recovery emails double the chances of purchase completion, making this an essential tool for improving conversion rates.
