
Importing Your Blog Content to Squarespace: Guide for WordPress, Blogger & Tumblr
Blog content from WordPress, Blogger, or Tumblr can be easily imported to Squarespace. Here's how to do it effectively:
Pre-Import Requirements
WordPress:
- Must be version 3.2 or higher
- Deactivate all plugins before importing
- Only .xml files generated by WordPress are supported
Blogger:
- Site must be public
- Blog feed must be set to "Full"
Tumblr:
- Remove all Ask/Answer posts before importing
- Not compatible with photo posts or direct video uploads

WordPress imports:
- Blog posts and pages
- Comments and authors
- Categories and tags
- Single images and attachments
Blogger imports:
- Posts
- Comments
- Images
Tumblr imports:
- Text, quote, and link posts
- Audio posts
- Embedded videos (from third-party services)

Import Process
WordPress Import (2 methods):
Basic Method (for small sites):
- Go to Import/Export panel
- Click Import → WordPress → Basic
- Enter WordPress URL, username, and password
- Click Start Import
Advanced Method (recommended):
- Export content from WordPress dashboard as .xml file
- In Squarespace, go to Import/Export
- Choose WordPress → Advanced
- Upload the .xml file
- Select markup language if needed
- Click Start Import
Blogger Import:
- Open Import/Export panel
- Click Import → Blogger
- Enter blog subdomain
- Click Start Import
Tumblr Import:
- Open Import/Export panel
- Click Import → Tumblr
- Enter Tumblr URL
- Click Start Import
Troubleshooting Failed Imports
For WordPress:
- Verify URL and site accessibility
- Disable plugins blocking root directory access
- Reset WordPress password
- Try exporting smaller chunks for large sites
For Blogger:
- Confirm feed settings are set to "Full"
- Ensure site is public
For Tumblr:
- Verify URL is correct
- Remove all Ask/Answer posts
Post-Import Steps
- Activate imported pages in navigation
- Move blog posts to desired location
- Rename blog pages as needed
- Set homepage preferences
- Review and organize imported content
