How to Connect Your Dotster Domain to Squarespace: DNS Configuration Guide
Connect your Dotster domain to Squarespace by following these simple steps. Before starting, ensure you meet all third-party domain connection requirements.
Step 1: Initiate Connection in Squarespace
- Navigate to Domains menu
- Click "Use External Domain"
- Enter your domain name
- Click "Connect Domain"
- Select Dotster from dropdown
- Click "Connect Domain" again
- Click "Next"
Keep this window open for reference.
Step 2: Access Dotster Settings
- Log in to www.dotster.com
- Locate your domain and click "Manage"
- Navigate to "DNS & Nameservers"
- Select "DNS Records" tab
Step 3: Add First CNAME Record
Create a CNAME record with:
- Host: [unique code from Squarespace]
- Type: CNAME
- Data: verify.squarespace.com
- TTL: 1 hour
- Priority: Leave empty
Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record
Create another CNAME record with:
- Host: www
- Type: CNAME
- Data: ext-cust.squarespace.com
- TTL: 1 hour
- Priority: Leave empty
Step 5: Add Four A Records
Create four A records with:
- Host: @ | Type: A | Data: 198.185.159.144
- Host: @ | Type: A | Data: 198.185.159.145
- Host: @ | Type: A | Data: 198.49.23.144
- Host: @ | Type: A | Data: 198.49.23.145
Set TTL to 1 hour for each record.
Step 6: Wait for Connection
- Allow 24-72 hours for full propagation
- Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS settings
- Check for "Connected" status in Domains menu
Troubleshooting
If you see "Domain ownership cannot be verified" after 72 hours:
- Use the DNS Record Checker in DNS Settings
- Verify all CNAME and A records
- Contact Dotster support if needed
Note: Temporary errors are normal during the first 72 hours after setup.
