How to Import Content from WordPress, Blogger or Tumblr to Squarespace

Begin importing content from WordPress, Blogger, or Tumblr by ensuring you have an active Squarespace site. Here's what each platform allows you to import:

WordPress Import Requirements

  • Use WordPress 3.2 or later
  • Only .xml files from WordPress are compatible
  • Disable all plugins before importing
  • Content imports as multiple pages

Blogger Import Requirements

  • Site must be public
  • Set blog feeds to "Full" in settings
  • Content imports as a single Blog page

Tumblr Import Requirements

  • Remove all Q&A posts before importing
  • Content imports as a single Blog page
  • Videos must be from third-party services

Import Steps by Platform:

WordPress (Two Methods):

  1. Basic Method (for small sites)
  • Open Import panel
  • Select WordPress > Basic
  • Enter URL, username, password
  • Click Start Import
  1. Advanced Method (recommended)
  • Export WordPress content as .xml file
  • Open Squarespace Import panel
  • Select WordPress > Advanced
  • Upload .xml file
  • Choose markup processor if needed
  • Start import

Blogger:

  • Open Import panel
  • Click Blogger
  • Enter blogspot subdomain
  • Start import

Tumblr:

  • Open Import panel
  • Click Tumblr
  • Enter Tumblr URL
  • Start import

After Import:

  • Imported content appears in Not Linked section
  • Activate pages and add to navigation
  • Move blog posts if needed
  • Rename pages as desired
  • Set homepage

Troubleshooting Failed Imports

  • System retries interrupted imports every 30 minutes
  • Most imports complete within 6 hours
  • Check platform-specific requirements
  • Ensure URLs are correct
  • For large WordPress sites, split content into smaller .xml files
