To transfer a third-party domain between Squarespace sites, follow these steps:

Note: This process works for domains registered through providers like Hostgator or Namecheap.

Before Starting:

  • Ensure your site isn't a parked page (upgrade if needed)
  • Verify both sites are active and not expired
  • Confirm your domain registration is current

Step 1: Remove Existing Domain Connection

  1. Go to the original site's Domain panel
  2. Select the domain you want to transfer
  3. Scroll down and click "Disconnect Domain"
  4. Confirm by clicking "Disconnect"

Step 2: Connect Domain to New Site

  1. Log into your new Squarespace site
  2. Open the Domains panel
  3. Click "Use a Domain I Own"
  4. Enter your domain name and click "Continue"
  5. Select "Connect from provider"
  6. Choose your domain provider from the dropdown menu

For Automatic Connections (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Network Solutions):

  • Log in to your provider account
  • Click "Connect" in the provider's message

For Manual Connections:

  1. Access your domain provider's DNS settings
  2. Locate the CNAME record with verify.squarespace.com
  3. Copy the unique code from Squarespace's DNS settings
  4. Replace the existing Alias field with the new code
  5. Save changes

Connection Time:

  • Allow 24-48 hours for changes to take effect
  • Monitor progress in the Domains panel

Google Workspace Transfer: If you have Google Workspace linked to your domain, contact Squarespace support with:

  • Current Squarespace site URL
  • New Squarespace site URL
  • Custom domain name

Troubleshooting:

  • Check provider-specific guides for detailed CNAME editing steps
  • Review domain connection troubleshooting documentation
  • Contact support if issues persist, providing all site URLs and progress details
