How to Register Nameservers and Manage Glue Records
Glue records allow you to host your domain on your own servers by linking your nameserver's hostname to its IP address at the registry level. This is essential when you want to manage your own DNS infrastructure or use custom nameservers.
Prerequisites:
- Own server setup
- Server administration knowledge
- Server hostname and IP address information
Adding Glue Records:
- Access your domain dashboard
- Navigate to DNS settings > Nameserver registration
- Click "Add host record"
- Enter your server's hostname
- Input the IP address
- Save changes
Note: Changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate across the internet.
Removing Glue Records:
- Ensure nameservers point to a different destination first
- Access domain dashboard
- Go to DNS > Domain nameservers
- Click Nameserver registration
- Delete host record using trash can icon
- Save changes
Important Considerations:
- Removing glue records while in use can cause service disruption
- Website availability may be affected for up to 72 hours during changes
- Verify all server information before making modifications
- Keep existing DNS settings until new configuration is fully propagated
Common Use Cases:
- Self-hosted DNS servers
- Custom nameserver implementation
- Third-party DNS management (e.g., Cloudflare)
- Advanced DNS infrastructure setups
Remember to always maintain backup DNS configurations and test changes in a controlled environment before implementing them on production systems.
