
Import Content from WordPress, Blogger, and Tumblr to Squarespace: A Complete Guide
Start by backing up your content before importing to Squarespace from WordPress, Blogger, or Tumblr. This one-time process transfers your existing content but won't sync future updates.
Platform-Specific Requirements:
WordPress:
- Requires version 3.2 or higher
- Only accepts WordPress .xml files
- Disable all plugins before importing
- Site must be public
Blogger:
- Site must be public
- Set Blog Feed to "Full" in Feed Settings
- Creates new blog page per import
Tumblr:
- Remove all Ask/Answer posts before importing
- Creates new blog page per import
- Not compatible with Ask/Answer format
What Gets Imported:
WordPress imports:
- Blog posts, pages, and authors
- Comments and categories
- Individual images and attachments
- Tags
Blogger imports:
- Posts
- Comments
- Images
Tumblr imports:
- Text, audio, and chat posts
- Links and quotes
- Image captions

Import Process:
WordPress (Two options):
- Basic Import (for small sites):
- Navigate to Import panel
- Enter WordPress credentials
- Click Begin Import
- Advanced Import (recommended):
- Export WordPress content as .xml
- Upload file to Squarespace
- Select markup language if needed
- Begin import
Blogger:
- Go to Import panel
- Enter blogspot subdomain
- Click Begin Import
Tumblr:
- Access Import panel
- Enter Tumblr URL
- Click Begin Import
Troubleshooting Failed Imports:
- System automatically retries 5 times over 6 hours
- Check platform-specific requirements
- Verify credentials and URLs
- For large imports, break content into smaller chunks
- Remove problematic content (like Tumblr Ask/Answer posts)
After Successful Import:
- Enable imported pages
- Add pages to navigation
- Organize blog posts
- Customize page names
- Set homepage if desired
Note: Imported content appears in the "Not linked" section and needs manual activation.
