How to Create and Manage Subdomains in Squarespace
A subdomain is a prefix to your main domain name, like "blog.yourdomain.com" where "blog" is the subdomain. While "www" is the most common subdomain, you can create custom ones to organize different sections of your website.
Creating a Subdomain in Squarespace
- Navigate to Domains dashboard
- Select your domain
- Click Website
- Scroll to Domain Redirect Rules
- Click Add Rule
- Enter subdomain name (e.g., "blog")
- Enter full URL destination
- Configure Advanced Settings:
- Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
- Keep SSL enabled (recommended)
- Click Save
Modifying a Subdomain
- Access Domains dashboard
- Select domain
- Click Website
- Find Domain Redirect Rules
- Click Edit beside subdomain
- Make changes
- Save
Deleting a Subdomain
- Go to Domains dashboard
- Select domain
- Click Website
- Locate Domain Redirect Rules
- Click trash can icon
- Confirm deletion
Manual Subdomain Creation (DNS Settings)
- Open Domains dashboard
- Select domain
- Click DNS
- Choose Add a predefined setting
- Select subdomain from dropdown
- Enter subdomain name
- Choose redirect destination:
- Homepage option
- Other page/site option (requires URL)
- Click Add
Note: For domains using Nameserver Connect, DNS records are managed through Squarespace's Domain panel, while your domain provider handles billing. For third-party domains, use DNS Connect to set up subdomains.
