Connect a Strato Domain to Squarespace: Step-by-Step Guide
Before starting, ensure your domain meets Squarespace's third-party domain requirements.
Step 1: Initiate Connection in Squarespace
- Go to Domains panel
- Click "Use a domain I own"
- Enter your domain name and click the arrow
- Click "Connect domain"
- Select "Other" from dropdown
- Click "Connect domain" again
- Click "Continue"
Keep the DNS settings panel open for reference.
Step 2: Access Strato Settings
- Log in to www.strato.de
- Locate your domain and click "Manage domain"
- Click "DNS" then "Domain management"
Step 3: Add First CNAME Record
Configure the verification CNAME:
- Type: CNAME
- Prefix: [Copy unique code from Squarespace]
- Value: verify.squarespace.com
- SPF Rule: No
- Click "Apply settings"
Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record
Configure the www CNAME:
- Type: CNAME
- Prefix: www
- Value: ext-cust.squarespace.com
- SPF Rule: No
- Click "Apply settings"
Step 5: Add A Record
Create an A record:
- Click "A record" then "Manage"
- Select "Own IP address"
- Enter: 198.185.159.144
- Click "Apply settings"
Note: Delete any conflicting A records except email-related ones.
Step 6: Wait for Connection
- Allow 24-72 hours for full connection
- Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS Settings
- Green labels indicate successful connection
- Domain will show "Connected" when complete
Troubleshooting
If you see "Can't verify domain ownership":
- Use the DNS checker tool in DNS Settings
- Verify CNAME and A records match exactly
- Contact Strato support if needed
Connection typically completes within 72 hours. If issues persist after this period, consult Squarespace's troubleshooting guide.
