Before connecting a Strato domain to Squarespace, ensure you meet all third-party domain connection requirements. Follow these steps for a successful connection:

Step 1: Begin Connection in Squarespace

1. Navigate to Domains menu
2. Click "Use External Domain"
3. Enter your domain name
4. Click "Connect Domain"
5. Select "Other" from dropdown
6. Click "Connect Domain" again
7. Click "Continue"

Keep the DNS Settings menu open for reference.

Step 2: Access Strato Settings

1. Log in to www.strato.de
2. Find your domain and click "Manage Domain"
3. Navigate to "DNS" then "Domain Management"

Step 3: Add First CNAME Record

• Type: CNAME
• Prefix: [Copy unique code from Squarespace]
• Value: verify.squarespace.com
• SPF Rule: Select "No SPF Rule"
• Click "Apply Settings"

Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record

• Type: CNAME
• Prefix: www
• Value: ext-cust.squarespace.com
• SPF Rule: Select "No SPF Rule"
• Click "Apply Settings"

Step 5: Add A Record

Create one A record with these settings:

• Click "A record"
• Select "Manage"
• Choose "Your IP Address"
• Enter: 198.185.159.144
• Click "Apply Settings"

Important A Record Notes:

• Delete any blank host A records
• Keep Mail/Email A records
• Only modify @ records if they don't match provided values

Step 6: Wait for Connection

• Allow 24-72 hours for full connection
• Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS Settings
• Green labels will appear as connection establishes
• Domain shows "Connected" when complete

Troubleshooting:

• Use DNS Entry Check Tool if "Domain ownership cannot be verified" appears
• Contact Strato support for account-specific issues
• Check Domain Connections Troubleshooting page if errors persist after 72 hours
