Setting up a TXT record for domain verification is necessary when CNAME verification fails or isn't supported. Here's how to verify your domain using a TXT record:

When to Use TXT Record Verification

  • Standard CNAME verification hasn't worked after 72 hours
  • Your domain provider doesn't support CNAME records
  • You can't modify existing CNAME records
  • You're connecting a subdomain

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Access DNS Settings
  • Log into your domain provider account
  • Find DNS management section (may be called "Zone file settings" or "DNS management")
  1. Add TXT Record
  • Go to your Squarespace domains dashboard
  • Select your domain and click DNS
  • Copy the unique verification code under the Host column
  • Create a new TXT record with:
    • Host/Alias: @ or leave blank
    • Record Type: TXT
    • Value: Your copied verification code
  1. Verify Connection
  • Return to Squarespace DNS settings
  • Click Update under the records
  • Check Current Data column for green "Correct" label
  • Allow up to 72 hours for changes to take effect

Important Notes:

  • Keep existing DNS records intact
  • Verification may take up to 72 hours
  • This method works for both domains and subdomains
  • Don't delete any existing records during this process

If verification fails after 72 hours, double-check your TXT record entries and contact your domain provider's support for assistance.
