Domain verification becomes necessary when standard CNAME verification fails or isn't possible. Here's how to verify your domain using a TXT record:

When to Use TXT Verification:

  • After 72 hours of failed standard verification
  • When CNAME records aren't supported by your provider
  • If you can't modify existing CNAME records
  • For subdomain verification

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Access DNS Settings
  • Log into your domain provider account
  • Navigate to DNS management (may be called Zone File Settings or DNS Manager)
  1. Add TXT Record
  • Go to Domains dashboard in Squarespace
  • Select your domain and click DNS
  • Copy the unique verification code from the Host column
  • Create a new TXT record with:
    • Host/Alias: @ or leave blank
    • Record Type: TXT
    • Value: Paste the verification code
  1. Verify Connection
  • Return to Squarespace DNS settings
  • Click Refresh under records
  • Wait for "Correct" to appear in green (may take up to 72 hours)

Important Notes:

  • Verification can take up to 72 hours
  • Keep existing DNS records intact
  • This method works for both domains and subdomains
  • Different providers may use varying terminology for DNS settings

If verification fails after 72 hours, contact your domain provider's support for assistance with DNS record implementation.
