DNS records are essential for connecting third-party domains to Squarespace. Here's exactly what you need to know:

Required DNS Records

You'll need two CNAME records and four A records to properly connect your domain.

CNAME Records:

  1. Verification CNAME
  • Host/Alias: [Your unique verification code]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. WWW CNAME
  • Host/Alias: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

A Records: All A records use "@" as the Host/Alias name and point to these IP addresses:

  • 198.185.159.144
  • 198.185.159.145
  • 198.49.23.144
  • 198.49.23.145

Note: If your provider only allows one A record, use 198.185.159.144.

Implementation Tips:

  • Allow up to 72 hours for DNS changes to take effect
  • "Record not found" messages are normal immediately after adding records
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for managing DNS records
  • Ensure your provider allows full DNS record editing access

Troubleshooting:

  • If records aren't showing up, contact your domain provider for guidance
  • Use the DNS record checker in the Domains panel to identify specific issues
  • Consider transferring your domain to Squarespace if eligible
  • For persistent issues, review your provider's specific documentation or contact their support

Remember: DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate globally, so patience is essential after making these changes.
