How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain
DNS records contain essential information about your domain, directing users to your website and email addresses while enhancing security and authenticating ownership. Here's how to manage DNS records on Squarespace.
Prerequisites
- A Squarespace-managed domain, or
- An external domain linked via nameserver
Accessing DNS Settings
- Open domain control panel
- Select domain name
- Click DNS Settings
Adding DNS Records You can add various types of DNS records:
- A and AAAA records
- ALIAS and CNAME records
- DKIM and SPF records
- DMARC records
- MX records
- SRV records
- CAA records
- DS and DNSKEY records
- HTTPS records
- PTR records
- SSHFP records
- TLSA records
- NS records
- TXT records
Customizing TTL (Time To Live)
- Default TTL: 4 hours
- Can be modified using predefined values
- Custom values accepted up to 2147483648 seconds
Deleting DNS Records
- Navigate to domain control panel
- Select domain name
- Click DNS > DNS Settings
- Scroll to Custom Records
- Hover over record and click trash icon
- Click Save
Important Notes
- Changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate
- For external domains linked via DNS, edit records through your domain provider
- Limited reasons to edit DNS records include:
