Email subscriber verification can help reduce spam marking and improve email deliverability. Here's what you need to know:
Verification Options
Two main verification methods are available:
- Google reCAPTCHA
- Invisible security feature that prevents bot submissions
- Enabled by default for form blocks and newsletter blocks
- Works with form blocks, newsletter blocks, and promotional pop-ups
- No action required from visitors
- Confirmation Emails
- Sends verification email to new subscribers
- Available for form blocks, newsletter blocks, promotional pop-ups
- Also used for Acuity Scheduling opt-ins and free member sites
- Can be disabled when reCAPTCHA is enabled
Setting Up Verification
For newsletter blocks and promotional pop-ups using Squarespace storage, at least one verification method must be enabled:
- Access Email Marketing settings panel
- Click Verification Options
- Enable/disable reCAPTCHA or confirmation emails
- Customize confirmation email message if desired
Customizing Confirmation Emails
To modify the confirmation email:
- Go to Email Marketing settings > Verification Options
- Click Customize Email
- Edit message text and style
- Modify subject line and preview text
- Send test email to verify appearance
- Save changes
Troubleshooting
If subscribers don't receive confirmation emails:
- Check spam folders
- Add [email protected] to contacts
- Verify email address accuracy
- Try subscribing with different email address
For 404 errors during confirmation:
- Reconnect mailing list to form storage
- Ensure domain points correctly to Squarespace site
Note: Verification options are not available for checkout subscriptions, manually added addresses, or imported contacts. EU users should ensure compliance with local regulations.
