Managing Your Custom Domain Email on Squarespace

You can continue using your existing email service or switch to Google Workspace while maintaining your custom domain email address (like [email protected]).

Keep Your Current Email Provider

Continuing with your existing email service won't affect your site address. For third-party domains, only CNAME and A records need modification. If using Squarespace Domains, simply add the necessary DNS records provided by your email provider.

Switch to Google Workspace

Moving to Google Workspace lets you:

  • Keep your existing email address
  • Manage billing through Squarespace
  • Access Gmail, Calendar, and Drive features
  • Use it with both third-party and Squarespace domains

Migration Process

  1. Create Google Workspace Account
  • Set up through Squarespace
  • Add all necessary email addresses
  • Allow 1-72 hours for MX record changes to take effect
  1. Transfer Content
  • Migrate existing emails and contacts
  • Work with your current provider's support team
  • Use Google's data migration service
  1. Cancel Previous Service Before canceling, ensure:
  • Complete setup of Google Workspace
  • Successful email reception
  • Content backup from old account
  • Proper MX record management

Important Notes:

  • Don't cancel existing service until Google Workspace setup is complete
  • Maintain access to both email accounts during transition
  • Keep domain transfer complete before email setup
  • Don't modify MX records until instructed

The transition period typically takes 1-2 hours but may extend to 72 hours while mail services update their cached records.

You can still access your emails through Google's interface while managing billing through Squarespace, providing a seamless integration of services.
