Australia's .au and .com.au domains are available for registration to individuals and businesses with an Australian address. Here's what you need to know about these country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs).

Registration Requirements

To register a .au or .com.au domain, you must provide:

  • An Australian address
  • Valid Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Entity details matching your ABN/ACN documentation

Entity Types Allowed:

  • For .com.au: Companies, partnerships, sole traders, registered businesses
  • For .au: All business types plus individuals, charities, clubs, and non-profits

Required Information

During registration, you'll need to specify:

  • Entity Name (matching ABN/ACN documents)
  • Entity Type
  • ID Number (ABN or ACN)
  • Eligibility ID (for trademark-related registrations)
  • Reason for Policy compliance

Domain Management

Expiration and Grace Periods:

  • Payment charged 15 days before expiration
  • 30-day grace period for reactivation after expiration
  • No 5-day cancellation grace period
  • No refunds available

Transfer Rules:

  • Cannot transfer .au/.com.au domains to Squarespace
  • No 60-day lock period when transferring away
  • Ownership changes require new registration and fees
