Log in to your 1&1 IONOS and Squarespace accounts to manually connect your domain using DNS settings. Follow these steps carefully:

In Squarespace:

  1. Go to Domains menu
  2. Click "Use External Domain"
  3. Enter your domain name and click arrow
  4. Select "Other" and click "Connect Domain"
  5. Keep the DNS Settings menu open for reference

In 1&1 IONOS:

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Locate your domain and click "Actions" → "DNS"
  3. Delete existing AAAA and A records

Add DNS Records:

First CNAME Record:

  • Hostname: [unique code from Squarespace]
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  • TTL: 1 Hour

Second CNAME Record:

  • Hostname: www
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com
  • TTL: 1 Hour

Four A Records (all with @ as hostname):

  1. 198.185.159.144
  2. 198.185.159.145
  3. 198.49.23.144
  4. 198.49.23.145

Important Notes:

  • Keep Mail/Email DNS records to maintain email service
  • Allow 24-72 hours for changes to take effect
  • Green labels in Squarespace indicate successful connection
  • Use DNS Record Checker tool if verification fails

If you encounter issues after 72 hours:

  1. Verify all DNS records match exactly
  2. Check for conflicting records
  3. Contact IONOS support if problems persist
  4. Use Squarespace's DNS Record Checker tool to identify incorrect records

Remember: Keep any existing email-related DNS records to maintain email functionality. Changes typically take 24-72 hours to fully propagate.
