How to Setup and Manage Nameserver Records (Glue Records) - DNS Guide
Nameserver Records (glue records) enable you to host your domain on your own servers instead of using default nameservers. These records link your nameserver's IP address to your TLD record, ensuring accurate domain routing.
When to Use Glue Records:
- You have your own server setup
- You possess server management experience
- You want to host your domain on a non-provider server
Adding Glue Records:
- Gather your server's hostname and IP address from your provider
- Access your domain panel
- Navigate to DNS > Nameserver Record
- Click "Add Host Record"
- Enter the hostname and IP address
- Save changes (allow 24-72 hours for updates)
Deleting Glue Records:
- Ensure nameservers point elsewhere before deletion
- Navigate to domain panel
- Go to DNS > Domain Nameservers > Nameserver Record
- Click the trash icon next to the host record
- Save changes (allow 24-72 hours for updates)
Important Notes:
- Deletion impossible while records are in use
- Deleting records may cause 72-hour service disruption
- Custom nameservers must be added after creating glue records
- Changes typically take 24-72 hours to propagate
Best Practices:
- Keep server information readily available
- Plan changes during low-traffic periods
- Maintain backup DNS settings
- Document all DNS configuration changes
