To rename a Squarespace domain, you have two options: rename within five days of registration or cancel and register a new domain.

5-Day Grace Period

  • You can change your domain name within 5 days of registration
  • Grace period is measured to the minute
  • Example: Domain registered January 1 at 8:00 AM can be canceled until January 6 at 7:59 AM

Important Notes

  • Primary domains cannot be removed without setting another domain as primary first
  • Most country-specific domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de have no grace period or refund
  • After the 5-day period, you must switch to a different primary domain

How to Cancel Your Domain (Within 5 Days)

  1. Access your domain dashboard
  2. Select the domain you want to change
  3. Click "Delete Domain"
  4. Wait for refund processing

Exceptions

  • ccTLD domains (.au, .de, etc.) don't offer cancellation grace periods
  • Domains registered through resellers (like Google Workspace) must be canceled through their respective platforms

Register New Domain After cancellation is complete, simply register your new domain through your Squarespace domain dashboard.

Remember

  • Keep your website accessible by setting up a new primary domain before removing the old one
  • Check specific domain rules for your TLD type
  • Consider SEO implications when changing domains

This process ensures a smooth transition while maintaining your online presence and domain functionality.
