When you upload media to Squarespace, it's stored on content delivery networks (CDNs) with unique URLs for efficient delivery and loading.
Image URLs
- Multiple sizes are automatically generated
- Each size gets a unique static URL
- Improves website performance and page loading
- Better Google search rankings
Video URLs
- Automatically converts to MP4
- Available in 1080p and 360p
- Optimized for all devices and browsers
Finding Direct URLs
- Right-click image and open in new tab
- Check browser's address bar
- Look for URLs starting with:
- images.squarespace-cdn.com
- static.squarespace.com
- static1.squarespace.com
Deleting Media URLs
Images and Videos:
- Delete directly from content library
- Automatic removal in 8-38 days if unused
- Deleted image blocks: 8 days
- Deleted pages: 30 days in trash + 8 days
Files:
- Remain temporarily accessible via direct URL
- Complete removal takes 8-38 days
- Must delete all instances from website
- Empty website trash
Requesting Early Removal:
- Contact Squarespace support
- Include:
- "Static URL Removal Request"
- Domain name
- Static URL(s) to remove
- Separate multiple URLs with commas
