When you upload media to Squarespace, it's stored on content delivery networks (CDNs) and assigned specific static URLs for efficient delivery.

Image URLs

Images are automatically stored in multiple sizes, each with its own static URL. This improves site performance and page load times. The URLs follow this pattern:

  • Start with: images.squarespace-cdn.com, static.squarespace.com, or static1.squarespace.com
  • End with format size (e.g., format=1000w for 1000-pixel width)

Video URLs

Videos are automatically converted to mp4 format and optimized in:

  • 1080p quality
  • 360p quality for better device compatibility

Finding Static URLs

To locate an image's URL:

  1. Right-click the image and open in new tab
  2. Check browser address bar
  3. If right-click isn't available, view page source or use browser developer tools

Removing Content URLs

Images and Videos:

  • Delete directly through resource library for immediate removal
  • Unused resources auto-delete after 8-38 days
  • Deleted page content remains in trash for 30 days
  • After trash emptying, takes 8 additional days for permanent deletion

Files:

  • Remain in CDN temporarily after deletion
  • Take 8-38 days for complete system removal
  • Not visible on site but accessible via direct URL during deletion period

Expedited Deletion Requests

To request faster removal:

  1. Email from site owner's address
  2. Include:
    • "Request for deletion of static URL"
    • Domain name
    • Static URL(s) to remove
    • Separate multiple URLs with commas

Note: Complete URL removal timing varies and cannot be expedited. Search engines may continue displaying cached URLs until re-indexing occurs.

CDN Infrastructure

Squarespace uses global networks of servers and data centers for content distribution. This ensures fast loading times and reliable content delivery worldwide.
