How to Connect Squarespace Domain to Google Sites: DNS Setup Guide

Connect your Squarespace domain to Google Sites by following these simple steps:

Before You Start

  • Verify your Squarespace domain in Google Search Console
  • Keep your domain registered with Squarespace to maintain the connection

Step 1: Configure Google Sites

  1. Log in to Google Sites
  2. Click your website
  3. Open Settings from the top header
  4. Select Custom domains
  5. Click Start setup
  6. Enter your domain and click Next
  7. Keep the "Connecting to external domain registrar" window open

Step 2: Configure Squarespace DNS

  1. Log in to Squarespace
  2. Open your domains panel
  3. Select your domain
  4. Click DNS settings
  5. Delete Squarespace Default Values
  6. Add CNAME record:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Host: www
    • Data: ghs.googlehosted.com
    • Priority: Leave default

Add URL Redirect (Optional):

  1. Go to Website section
  2. Add URL Redirect Rule
  3. Subdomain: @
  4. Enter www version of your domain
  5. Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
  6. Keep SSL enabled
  7. Set path preferences
  8. Save changes

Step 3: Complete Connection

  1. Return to Google Sites
  2. Click Ready in the connection window
  3. Wait 24-72 hours for changes to take effect
  4. Verify connection in Custom domains settings

Troubleshooting:

  • For DNS setting errors: Contact Squarespace support
  • For Google Sites issues: Contact Google support
  • Allow up to 72 hours for changes to propagate

Note: If using Google Workspace, connect your domain through the admin console following Google's documentation.
