How to Authenticate Third-Party Domains for Email Campaign Security

Email Domain Authentication Guide for Campaigns

Custom email domain authentication prevents your campaigns from being marked as spam. A custom email address matches your domain (e.g., [email protected] for www.sampledomain.com).

For third-party domains, you can either:

  • Transfer the domain for automatic authentication
  • Manually add authentication records to DNS settings

Required DNS Records:

  1. CNAME Record
  • Type: CNAME
  • Host: squarespace._domainkey
  • Data: squarespace-domainkey.squarespace-mail.com
  1. TXT Record
  • Type: TXT
  • Host: _dmarc
  • Data: [unique code provided]

Provider-Specific Instructions:

IONOS:

  1. Login to my.ionos.com/domains
  2. Select domain > Domain Details
  3. Click DNS > Add Record
  4. Add CNAME and TXT records
  5. Save changes

GoDaddy:

  1. Access Domain Manager (dashboard.godaddy.com)
  2. Navigate to Domain Settings > Manage DNS
  3. Add CNAME and TXT records under DNS Records
  4. Save changes

Google Domains:

  1. Login to Domains.google
  2. Click DNS icon
  3. Scroll to Custom resource records
  4. Add CNAME and TXT records
  5. Save changes

Hover:

  1. Login to hover.com
  2. Click DNS > Add Record
  3. Add CNAME and TXT records
  4. Save changes

Namecheap:

  1. Login to namecheap.com
  2. Navigate to Account > Domain List
  3. Click Manage > Advanced DNS Records
  4. Add CNAME and TXT records
  5. Save all changes

Important Notes:

  • DNS changes may take up to 72 hours to resolve
  • Authentication is complete when "[Domain Not Authenticated]" disappears
  • Contact your provider's support for specific DNS setting assistance
  • If DMARC policy is set to p=reject, authentication is required before use
