Domain validation using a TXT record serves as an alternative method when standard CNAME validation isn't working or available. This method is particularly useful when:

  • Your domain remains unverified after 72 hours
  • Your domain provider doesn't accept CNAME records
  • You can't modify existing CNAME records
  • Standard domain linking process hasn't worked

Follow these steps to validate your domain using a TXT record:

  1. Access DNS Settings
  • Log into your domain provider account
  • Navigate to DNS management (might be called Zone File Settings or DNS Manager)
  1. Locate Verification Code
  • Open your domain control panel
  • Click the domain requiring validation
  • Select DNS settings
  • Copy the unique verification code below the Host column (pointing to verify.squarespace.com)

  1. Add TXT Record
  • Create a new TXT record in your provider's DNS settings
  • For Host/Alias: Enter @ or leave blank
  • Set Type to: TXT or TXT Record
  • Points to: Paste the copied verification code
  • Save the changes
  1. Complete Validation
  • Return to Squarespace DNS settings
  • Click Update below the records
  • Wait for the Current Data column to refresh
  • Look for "Correct" in green when properly configured
  • Allow up to 7 hours for changes to process

Note: This method also works for subdomain linking. The verification process may take several hours to complete, but your domain will be validated once the DNS changes propagate.
