Swiftype lets you add custom search functionality to your Squarespace site. Here's how to set it up properly.

Prerequisites

  • Your site must be public
  • Only one Swiftype search field can be added per page

Setting Up Swiftype

  1. Create Your Search Engine
  • Log into Swiftype
  • Click "Create a New Engine"
  • Enter your website URL and click "Check URL"
  • Wait for site crawling to complete
  • Name your search engine and click "Create Engine"
  • Click "Finish Configuration"
  • Select "Install Search"
  • Customize your search field settings
  • Copy both the install code and search field code
  1. Add Code to Squarespace

Install Code:

  • Open Site Settings > Advanced > Code Injection
  • Paste the install code into the Header field
  • Save changes

Search Field Code:

  • Navigate to the page where you want the search
  • Add a Code Block
  • Paste the search field code
  • Save your changes

Important Notes:

  • Wait a few minutes for everything to sync
  • Test the search functionality on your live site
  • Only use one search field per page
  • Code modifications may need adjustments during platform updates

For Troubleshooting:

  • Review Swiftype documentation
  • Contact Swiftype support at [email protected]
  • Consider consulting a Squarespace expert for custom implementations

Best Practices:

  • Test search functionality across different devices
  • Regularly verify search results accuracy
  • Keep Swiftype installation codes backed up
  • Monitor search performance through Swiftype analytics

Remember that while this integration adds powerful search capabilities, it's a third-party solution and may require occasional maintenance or updates to ensure optimal performance.
