How to Add and Remove Nameserver Glue Records
Nameserver registration, also known as glue records, allows you to host your domain on your own servers by registering your nameserver's IP address in the domain extension registry. This is essential when hosting your domain outside of your registrar's nameservers.
Prerequisites:
- Own server infrastructure
- Server administration knowledge
- Desire to host domain on non-registrar servers
Adding Glue Records:
- Gather your server's host name and IP address from your provider
- Access your Domains dashboard
- Select your domain and navigate to DNS > Nameserver Registration
- Click "Add a Host Record"
- Enter the host name and IP address
- Click "Add IP Address"
- Save changes
Note: Updates may take 24-72 hours to propagate.
Removing Glue Records:
- Ensure nameservers point to alternative destination first
- Access Domains dashboard
- Select domain and go to DNS > Domain Nameservers
- Click Nameserver Registration
- Delete host record using trash can icon
- Save changes
Important:
- Cannot remove glue records currently in use
- Website may be unavailable for up to 72 hours during changes
- Always verify nameserver configuration before removing records
After adding glue records, remember to configure your custom nameservers for your domain to complete the setup process.
Remember to maintain accurate DNS records and regularly verify your nameserver configuration to ensure optimal domain functionality.
