
Enable Squarespace Payments: A Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Squarespace Payments allows you to centralize your finances in one dashboard while collecting payments on your website. Here's everything you need to know to get started.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be in a supported region (check availability guide)
- Need a Squarespace trial or paid personal plan (or higher)
- Require Site Owner or Administrator permissions
Sign-Up Process:
- Open the Payments panel
- Click "Turn on Squarespace Payments"
- Enter required information
- Click "Agree & submit"
Important Notes:
- Each website needs a separate Payments account
- Only Site Owners/Administrators can create accounts
- Verification requires business and personal information
- Must connect a checking account for payouts
Accepted Payment Methods:
- Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover)
- Digital wallets (Apple Pay)
- Buy now, pay later (Afterpay/Clearpay, Klarna)
- Link by Stripe
- ACH (US merchants only)
Available Features:
- One-time purchases
- Subscriptions
- Course pages
- Video pages
- Member sites
- Donations
Bank Account Connection:
- Open Payments panel
- Click "Connect Bank"
- Follow authentication prompts through Plaid
- Verify account using bank login or micro-deposits
Payout Information:
- New accounts: 15-19 day holding period after first sale
- Existing Stripe users: No holding period applies
- Payouts process Sunday-Thursday (excluding holidays)
Tax Reporting:
- 1099-K forms provided for merchants processing over $5,000 annually
- Forms available during tax season
Key Restrictions:
- Physical address required (no P.O. boxes)
- Must comply with payment processor's prohibited business list
- Not available for point-of-sale or Acuity Scheduling
- SSN required for US individuals (TIN for businesses)
Multiple Accounts:
- Can have multiple Payments accounts
- One account per website
- Same EIN can be used across multiple sites
- International sales supported with proper location eligibility
Previous Payment Processing:
- Existing Stripe accounts become "detached"
- Previous subscriptions continue through Stripe
- New subscriptions process through Squarespace Payments
- PayPal can still be accepted as additional payment option
