Embedded Domain on Squarespace: What It Is and How to Change It
You'll always find your site's embedded domain (Squarespace URL) in this format:
yoursiteid.squarespace.com
The site ID uses a randomly generated two-word combination, sometimes with additional random characters. You can change this ID anytime.
Your embedded domain appears in the browser's address bar when logged in, even if you have a custom domain. While visitors with a custom domain will see that instead, your embedded domain remains visible in the login screen and source code.
Embedded vs. Custom Domains
- Embedded domain: Automatically assigned URL ending in .squarespace.com
- Custom domain: Your chosen address (like yourdomain.com)
Finding Your Embedded Domain When logged in, check your browser's address bar and copy everything before "/config" in the URL.
Changing Your Embedded Domain Requirements:
- 3-30 characters long
- Letters, numbers, and hyphens only (no special characters)
- Must start with a letter
- Cannot end with a hyphen
- Not available for parking pages or Acuity Scheduling subscriptions
Steps to change:
- Open the Domain panel
- Click your embedded domain
- Enter new site ID
- Click Save

Save and Cancel Website
You'll receive a confirmation email titled "Updated Squarespace URL" after the change is complete.
Note: If your desired site ID is taken, you'll see an error message. Contact support if you want to use an embedded domain from a deleted site.
