Reporting Inaccurate Whois Domain Contact Information
Domain privacy protects your personal information from being publicly displayed in Whois records. Whois is an internet protocol that maintains domain registration details, including owner contact information, registration dates, and DNS records.
Squarespace automatically provides free domain privacy for most domains they manage. This means your personal contact information won't be publicly visible, protecting you from unwanted spam and solicitations.
What Shows in Whois Records:
- Registration date
- Nameservers
- DNS records
- Domain expiration date
- Registrar company
- Owner contact information (when privacy is disabled)
For domains with privacy enabled, Squarespace only displays:
- Registrant organization (if provided)
- State/province
- Country
Some domain types, particularly country-specific domains (like .fr and .de), may not support domain privacy due to registry rules. Contact your national registry for privacy options with these domains.
If your domain uses Squarespace Domains LLC or Squarespace Domains II LLC as registrar, a contact form link appears in place of the registrant's email. This allows legitimate inquiries while maintaining privacy.
To Manage Domain Privacy:
- Open your domain dashboard
- Click the desired domain
- Toggle the Whois privacy switch
When privacy is disabled, contact information visibility depends on your registrar:
- Squarespace Domains: Shows organization, country, and state
- Tucows: Displays country and state/province
Domain owners must maintain accurate Whois records. Incorrect or outdated information can be reported through Squarespace's Whois contact information form.
