.ca domains are specific to Canada and have unique requirements for registration and management. Here's what you need to know about these domains when using them with Squarespace.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a Canadian resident
  • Must meet Canadian Presence Requirement (CPR)
  • Must provide proof of residency when requested by CIRA

Pricing and Grace Period

  • Transfer to Squarespace is free (standard renewal fee applies)
  • Includes one year of registration with transfer
  • 5-day grace period for registration refunds
  • Local sales tax may apply
  • Not eligible for free domain offers

Legal Form Requirements

  • Must qualify under CIRA categories
  • Can select legal form during registration or transfer
  • Legal form can be modified in domain dashboard
  • Options include Canadian citizen and permanent resident status

Whois Privacy

  • Available only for individual legal forms
  • Eligible for Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Can be enabled through domain dashboard:
    1. Access domain settings
    2. Edit Registrant Information
    3. Select appropriate legal form
    4. Toggle Whois Privacy on

Important Considerations

  • CIRA may request residency proof via email
  • Failure to provide proof within 2 months results in domain deletion
  • Domain dashboard allows easy management of all settings
  • Different rules apply than most other TLDs
  • Connected domains from third parties aren't subject to these policies

Note: Keep all domain-related documents and respond promptly to any CIRA verification requests to maintain your domain registration status.
