Account and Site Language Settings
Squarespace offers two distinct language settings: account language (for managing your site) and site language (for visitor-facing content). Each serves different purposes and can be set independently.
Supported Languages Include:
- English, French, German, Italian
- Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish
- Danish, Dutch, Finnish
- Norwegian (Bokmål), Swedish
- Japanese (7.1 sites only, site language)
Changing Your Account Language:
- Go to Account Dashboard
- Navigate to Account Settings > Language
- Select your preferred language
- Save changes
Note: Account language settings are personal and apply across all your sites.
Changing Site Language:
- Access Language Settings
- Select desired language from dropdown
- Enable "Localize Website" toggle (if available)
- Save changes

What Stays in English:
- Calendar notations
- Demo content on cover pages
- Third-party integrations
- User-added content

Template Support:
- All Version 7.1 sites
- Select Version 7.0 templates (Bedford, Brine, York families)
- Montauk template (Julia, Kent, Om)
- Pacific template (Charlotte, Naomi, Pacific)
Date Localization:
- Applies to blog pages and posts
- Event pages and individual events
- Summary blocks with date metadata
- Archive blocks with date metadata
- Form block date/time fields
Important Notes:
- Multiple contributors can set different account languages
- Site language changes don't translate user-added content
- Only one site language can display at a time (unless using Weglot)
- Must switch to English before changing to unsupported templates
- Mobile app language can only be changed via desktop
