To link an external domain to your Squarespace site, you'll need to add specific DNS records in your domain provider's account. Here are the required records and their correct configurations:

Required CNAME Records

  1. Validation CNAME:
  • Host/Alias: [Your unique verification code from DNS Settings panel]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. WWW CNAME:
  • Host/Alias: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Required A Records

Add these four A Records (if your provider only allows one, use the first):

  • Host/Alias: @
  • Type: A Record
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Important Notes:

  • Allow up to 72 hours for DNS changes to take effect
  • "Record not found" messages are normal immediately after adding records
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for adding DNS records
  • If you can't find DNS settings, contact your domain provider for assistance

Troubleshooting Tips:

  1. Verify you have full access to edit DNS records
  2. Check provider-specific linking guides for detailed instructions
  3. After 72 hours, use the DNS record checker in the Domains panel to identify any misconfigured records
  4. Consider transferring the domain to Squarespace instead of linking for easier management

Remember to keep the original DNS records panel open while making these changes to ensure accurate copying of the verification code.
