Registration Requirements

To register or transfer a .it domain, you must have a mailing address in one of these regions:

  • European Economic Area (EEA) countries
  • Republic of San Marino
  • Swiss Confederation
  • United Kingdom
  • Vatican City

Eligible Entity Types

The following entities can register .it domains:

  • Italian citizens
  • European residents (excluding Italy)
  • Italian companies or sole proprietorships
  • Italian freelancers
  • Italian non-profit organizations
  • Italian public institutions
  • European corporations/organizations (excluding Italy)
  • Other eligible parties in Italy

WHOIS Privacy

WHOIS privacy protection is only available for:

  • Italian citizens

Domain Expiration and Renewal

Depending on the registrar:

  • Tucows: 10-day renewal grace period followed by a 30-day redemption period
  • Key-Systems: No grace period; domain disappears from dashboard upon expiration

Important Notes

  • No 5-day cancellation grace period or refunds available
  • Name server editing is not permitted
  • Domain transfers include a new one-year registration
  • Previous registration time doesn't carry over during transfers
  • Renewal date changes upon transfer completion

Custom DNS records can be used for most domain management tasks instead of editing name servers directly.
