Duplicating Squarespace websites allows you to create a new site with the same structure as an existing one. This guide explains what gets copied and what doesn't during site duplication.

Limitations

  • Cannot duplicate sites with over 100 pages
  • Developer Platform sites cannot be duplicated
  • Parking pages are not eligible
  • Cover Page plan sites cannot be duplicated
  • Acuity Scheduling booking pages won't transfer

Important Notes

  • Original site remains unchanged
  • Changes to the copy don't affect the original
  • Duplicated site starts as a free trial
  • New site needs separate paid subscription

How to Duplicate a Site

  1. Access Account Dashboard
  2. Locate the site to duplicate
  3. Click ... menu
  4. Select "Duplicate website"
  5. Wait for the process to complete (time varies by site size)

What Gets Copied

  • Pages, sections, and blocks
  • Code injections
  • Collection items
  • Site title and logo
  • Language and region settings
  • Style settings
  • Template
  • Text content
  • Basic authors (permissions only)

What Doesn't Transfer

  • Subscriptions and additional features
  • Audio files
  • Blog comments
  • Deleted content
  • Uploaded files via link editor
  • Stock images
  • Unused Resource Library content
  • Saved sections
  • Sales data
  • Third-party integrations
  • Site-specific settings
  • Analytics data
  • Billing information
  • Collaborator permissions

Member Sites Handling

  • Member Sites feature is disabled in the duplicate
  • Member pages move to unlinked section
  • To restore member sites:
    • Subscribe to eligible plan
    • Enable Member Sites
    • Move pages from unlinked to Member Sites section

URL Management

  • Collection item URLs get additional characters
  • Update URL slugs manually if needed
  • For address changes without duplication, simply add and set a new primary domain

If you encounter errors during duplication, contact Squarespace support for assistance.
