Domain forwarding lets you redirect visitors from one URL to another. Here's how to set it up properly:

Basic Domain Forwarding

  1. Access domain settings:
  • Open domain dashboard
  • Click your domain
  • Select Website
  • Scroll to Domain Forwarding
  • Click Add Rule
  1. Configure forwarding:
  • Forward From: Enter @ (root domain) or subdomain
  • Forward To: Enter complete destination URL
  • Choose redirect type (301 permanent or 302 temporary)
  • Enable SSL (recommended)
  1. Select path forwarding option:
  • Keep Paths: Maintains original URL structure
  • Remove Paths: Forwards all URLs to new address

Types of Forwarding

Root Domain Forwarding Direct your main domain to another website (example.com → newsite.com)

Subdomain Forwarding Forward specific subdomains (blog.example.com → newsite.com/blog)

Page-Specific Forwarding Redirect to specific pages (example.com → newsite.com/specific-page)

Important Considerations

  • Allow up to 72 hours for changes to take effect
  • Clear browser cache if forwarding doesn't work immediately
  • Custom nameservers require additional DNS configuration
  • Cannot edit DNS records while forwarding is active
  • WWW version automatically forwards with root domain

Troubleshooting

If forwarding fails, check:

  • Browser cache
  • URL accuracy
  • SSL configuration
  • DNS record conflicts
  • Nameserver settings

To remove forwarding:

  1. Open domain dashboard
  2. Select domain
  3. Click Website
  4. Find Domain Forwarding
  5. Click trash can icon to delete rule

Path forwarding works best when both sites share similar URL structures. For different URL patterns, create individual forwarding rules instead.
