How to Accept Afterpay and Clearpay Payments on Your Store

Afterpay and Clearpay are payment solutions that let customers split purchases into four interest-free installments while merchants receive the full payment upfront. Clearpay is the UK equivalent of Afterpay.

Eligibility Requirements:

For Afterpay:

  • Available in US, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, and Australia
  • Must sell physical products only
  • Requires Squarespace Payments or Stripe integration
  • Need Personal, Business, or Commerce plan subscription

For Clearpay:

  • Available only in the UK
  • Same requirements as Afterpay
  • Order total must be between £1-£1000

Processing Fees:

  • Afterpay: 6% + $0.30 USD per transaction
  • Clearpay: 6% + £0.30 per transaction
  • Additional fees vary by Squarespace plan:
    • Business Plan: 3% transaction fee
    • Commerce Plan: No additional fees

How to Enable:

With Squarespace Payments:

  1. Open Payments panel
  2. Click Manage Settings
  3. Select Payment Methods tab
  4. Toggle on Afterpay/Clearpay

With Stripe:

  1. Connect Stripe account
  2. Open Payments panel
  3. Click Stripe
  4. Toggle on Afterpay/Clearpay

Customer Checkout Process:

  1. Select Afterpay/Clearpay at checkout
  2. Enter billing address
  3. Continue to Afterpay/Clearpay
  4. Log in or create account
  5. Review payment schedule
  6. Confirm transaction

Important Notes:

  • Customers must meet eligibility requirements and credit limits
  • Order total must be within spending limits
  • Local pickup orders are not eligible
  • Refunds are processed through Afterpay/Clearpay first
  • Processing fees are non-refundable
  • Customer payment plans are managed directly by Afterpay/Clearpay

To Disable:

  1. Open Payments panel
  2. Click Manage Settings
  3. Select Payment Methods tab
  4. Toggle off Afterpay/Clearpay

Existing payment plans will continue until completed, but new purchases will not be available through these methods.
